Mac King

Mac King is the newest rising star in Las Vegas. If you haven't seen his show at Harrah's you are missing out. He is author of Tricks with Your Head : Hilarious Magic Tricks and Stunts to Disgust and Delight and character in the syndicated comic strip Mac King's Magic In A Minute. Mac answered the Mini-Wizard's email back in 1998.

Mini-Wizard: What magicians have influenced you to perform the way you do today?

Mac King: I always say that my biggest influences are Jay Marshall, Billy McComb, Roy Benson, Max Maven and Lance Burton. But that really isn't true because I hadn't met or seen any of them (except Lance) until I had already sort of developed my act and my approach to magic.

Mini-Wizard: How did you come up with your character and what influences you to perform the magic the way you do?

Mac King: My character started out as a shy, dorky, quirky, guy from Belgium, complete with funny accent, etc. But when the comedian Andy Kaufman showed up on the scene it looked like I was copying him, so I changed it to a shy, dorky, quirky, guy from Kentucky (much easier to pull off).

Mini-Wizard: Do you have any advise for young magicians, or magicians in general?

Mac King: Two words-- Law School.
